What Does Heaven Look Like? Let’s Take A Look At What The Bible Says

The following ten descriptions from the bible will give you a clearer picture of what heaven looks like.

#1. There Are Mansions In Heaven

“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” John 14:2-3

You know the mansions here on earth—the beautiful kingly and stately palaces. Many of the worldly mansions have amazing views. However, as beautiful they might be, they can never come close to the many mansions God has prepared for the believers of Jesus Christ.

Before He was crucified, Jesus comfortingly talked to his disciples. He comforted them with the promise that He needed to go and that He will prepare a place for them. Jesus gave the assurance that He would return and take them with Him after some time.

And while the mansions in heaven are obviously more beautiful than anything we have heard, dwelling in Jesus offers even more peace and beauty. In the end, when we have walked with the Lord, we will end up in heaven, ready for the mansions.

#2 Heaven Is A City Of The Living God And For Worship

“But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect.” Hebrews 12:22-23

You can reread the verse, and you’ll notice how it has detailed descriptions of heaven. Heaven is the “city of the living God,” and it will be the most spectacular place, done according to The Lord’s perfect design.

When we finally get to heaven, thanks to Jesus and His work on the cross, we will assemble with the heavenly hosts in heaven to worship the mighty Lord. You can try to imagine how it will be—the multitudes before God; however, we are limited. But I am sure it will simply be awesome.

“At that time Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the Lord, and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem. No more shall they follow the dictates of their evil hearts” Jeremiah 3:17

#3. All People From All Walks Of Life Will Worship The Lord Jesus Christ

“After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’” Revelation 7:9-10

Do you remember Jesus’s triumphant entry to Jerusalem? Jesus rode on a donkey and entered Jerusalem. The people of Israel had lined the streets with their cloaks, and they were waving palm branches as they praised God for the great things He had seen them perform.

When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”

“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”

“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” Luke 19:37-40

“…when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: ‘Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! The King of Israel!’” John 12:12

The remarkable thing that happened later is saddening. Jesus wept probably because He realized they did not fully understand who He was and the kind of Kingdom He was to bring.

“And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace!” Luke 19:41-42

The good news is that in heaven, things will be clearer. There will be no confusion as the Prince Of Piece will be radiating glory, and every believer from all walks of life will know Him. They will worship Him and give Him genuine praise.

Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

#4. In Heaven There Will be Peace, Joy, and Praise

“Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes” Revelation 7:15-17.

The believers in Christ who have gone through the tribulation will be saved, and they will be before the throne of God forever.

They will worship Him day and night with great joy and genuine adoration. Jesus, the merciful Good Shepherd, will guide them to fountains of living waters, and they will never be thirsty again. Every tear will be wiped away by the Lord, and they will find rest in His presence. The worship and praise in heaven will be constantly satisfying for thousands of years.

#5. In Heaven, There Is An Ark Of The Covenant And A Great Storm In Heaven

“Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple. And there were lightnings, noises, thunderings, an earthquake, and great hail” Revelation 11:19.

If you get to watch a storm from far, the view is simply majestic. As you marvel at lightning’s intensity and thunder’s rumbling, you are reminded of God’s might and control over the universe.

However, beyond human comprehension, the storms and thunder in heaven will be nothing like anything you have seen here on earth. God’s might and majesty will rent the atmosphere throughout the universe, and His voice will be like thunder.

“The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders; the Lord is over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty” Psalm 29:3-4.

Afterwards, the temple of the Lord will be opened, and we will get to see the ark of the covenant again. What a day it will be! God’s covenant is everlasting, and His kingdom will dwarf all other kingdoms before it, and it will have no end.

“…and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end” Luke 1:33.

#6. In Heaven, Christ Jesus leads The Armies On White Horses and Clothed in White

“Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses” Revelation 19:11-14.

The white horse rider is the true leader— the Lord Jesus will ride from heaven leading His armies all dressed in white. Jesus is The King of Kings, and on His head are many crowns. His armies will ultimately come to judge all the nations of the earth. The leader of the heavenly army will have eyes like flames, and His righteousness will see through and penetrate every single heart.

There will be no confusion about the identity of Jesus or what He has done. The verse says His robe is dipped in blood—as a testament to His being the perfect sacrifice on the cross. And every knee will bow, every tongue will confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord.

“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” Philippians 2:9-11.

#7. Heaven is Adorned with Gemstones

“‘Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife.’ And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal” Revelation 21:9-11

Some gemstones are so rare, such as taaffeite, which was discovered in 1945. The rarity of such gemstones makes them so valuable. However, when we get to heaven, we will be amazed to see the great city of Jerusalem made of glorious gemstones. The city will be crystal shining. The radiance of the beautiful city will be more brilliant than anything you’ve seen before. The value will be of the city will be immeasurable because the glory of God will form part of its brilliance.

“Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth” Psalm 50:2

“The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst” Revelation 21:19-20.

#8. Streets Of Gold And Pearl Gates In Heaven

“The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass” Revelation 21:21

The pearls are some of today’s most valuable stuff. The gold is what people are constantly looking for because a few kilograms of it can change fortunes. The gates will now be made from one huge beautiful pearl in heaven. Imagine what heaven will look like with streets of gold. It is the most valuable place in the whole universe.

#9. No Sun And No Moon In Heaven

And while the sun and the moon are in heaven, it will not be dark. The glory of God and the Light of Christ will be the source of light.

“The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there)” Revelation 21:23-25.

#10 In Heaven, There is A Tree of Life

“In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations” Revelation 22:2

This is a beautiful statement that there will be no sickness and suffering in heaven in heaven. There will be no more pain and tears.

The fruits of the tree, which will be found in the center of heaven’s golden streets, will always be available and in abundance. We will not be searching for cures for diseases as we are doing right now. Every disease will be healed, and the citizens of heaven will be healed at once.

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God”’ Revelation 2:7.

11. No Night in Heaven

“They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever” Revelation 22:4-5.

In the famous song “I Can Only Imagine” by Mercy Me, there is a beautiful description of what heaven will look like? The song beautifully describes the man’s awe as he finds himself side by side with Jesus. Surrounded by the glory of God, shining brighter than the sun. As you listen to the song, it will inspire you to imagine meeting Jesus face to face. We all want to meet the Lord one day, and that is why we must hold on to the faith after we believe. We not only want to know what heaven looks like, but we also want to be part of its occupants.
